Restaurant fabula is a reservation-only located at the Jing’an District right at the centre of bustling city of Shanghai. The dining experience at fabula is revolved around a full tasting menu, with which diners can savour the innovative courses of distinctly local flavours on the concrete foundation of European cuisines.

No matter the season, a meal at fabula always starts with a bite of rice. It is a true Chinese stable that offers great comfort to the locals and hopefully, to our weary travellers who has trespassed clouds and oceans to reach us.
We are fundamentally a French restaurant but if you have to put a label on exactly what we cook, we would humbly define it as Neo-Sino-French.
Nevertheless, guests at fabula will feel right at home as many of the dishes we provide are inspired by the chefs’ hometowns and the bountiful ingredients that has in turn nurtured them.

Helmed by the three chef-owners, fabula is a small operation with wild idea.
Zee, Charles, and Ricky are from Ningbo, Foshan, and Shanghai, respectively. With their diverse backgrounds and years of life spent abroad in the USA, Canada, Switzerland, and the UK, the trio cooked up a a jazz-like menu like no other.
n. (grammatically in Latin as fābula)The word encompasses meaning such as discourse, narrative, and the dramatic play. Mostly importantly, as the origin of the English word “fable“, fābula means story. At the restaurant, a tale of refinement is what we fabulously want to tell.fabula

Home is that feeling.
The dining room is the kitchen. We have it built as if guests are dining at a friend’s cozy living room, surrounding a bonfire-like pass where our chefs plates and adds the final touches to the dishes.

Simplicity is key.
At fabula, we believe all garnishes should serve a purpose instead of merely decorative elements that demands space and creates no additional flavour. If the herbs and miniature flowers are already tasty and fragrant, it just so happens they are also a feast to the eyes as well.

Our team is our restaurant.
Playfulness is found throughout our menu since we apply that same philosophy to our environment of work, too. To be frank, most of our dear colleagues began as our friend and peers. Our belief in crafting succinctly sapid food brought us together again. We are deeply grateful for they are the ones who brought us a Michelin star in the first year of this tiny project.

Everything angle of a cut, every degree of temperature, and every second are minute but crucial parts that separates a cook from his former self, by doing things just a little bit better than yesterday’s.
